A small island in Western Visayas,Philippines,an area of 10.2 km²(3.98 sq. mi.),the population 28,000 people living in the island called Boracay.Because of her beautiful white sand beaches,Boracay a world renowned travel destination.The island was awarded for its beaches,in 2012 Boracay's was awarded as the best island in the world by the international travel magazine,Travel+Leisure.

The island is part of Aklan a Province in Western Visayas,Philippines.It is 315 kilometers,196 miles south of Manila.Only 2 kilometers in Northwest off the coast of Panay Island,Western Visayas,Philippines.Boracay has a small populations but foreign visitors from other countries around the world visit the island all year round because of its natural white sand beaches.Most local people in the island find their living in tourist spots,hotels,restaurants and souvenir shops.

Boracay has two primary tourist beaches the White Beach and Bulabog Beach each facing the opposite side located in the island central narrow area.And there are also several beaches scattered around the island that cater visitors.White Beach the main tourist beach,about four kilometers long,and lined with establishments,tourist-related businesses.In the center portion,about two kilometers,a footpath called Beachfront Path separated the establishments and the beachfront.Several roads and path connect the Beachfront and Boracay's main road.
Bulabog beach,facing east,the second most popular tourist beach in Boracay.Water sports like wind surfing and kite surfing are main attraction.
The best months to visit Boracay,the months of September 'til June,during this month's the wind blows from the east(Amihan),those protecting Boracay's main tourist area,the White Beach in the western portion,sheltered the beach from the wind.In the east,Bulabog beach,the Amihan session wind from the east onshore making it ideal for water sports.

History of Boracay:
When the Spanish come to Boracay the island was inhabited by the locale natives called Ati.The islands populations then was just 100,cultivating rice and raising goats are there primary income.The Spanish called the island Buracay.
In 1900 a couple took ownership of the substantial properties of the island,Lamberto Hontiveros Tirol,a local town judge from a nearby island of Panay,and his wife Sofia Gonzales Tirol.They planted coconut,fruit trees and vegetables and other followed them cultivating and develop the island.
In 2012 Boracay was named second,world best beaches after only to Providenciales in the Turk and Caicos islands,located in the Carribean.The Philippines,Department of Tourism said.
Many local and international sport events were held in Boracay.Boracay International Fun board Cup,held every January,annually.World Windsurfing tour,Dragon Boat race,held usually sometime in April or May every year,teams from the Philippines and around Asian Nations compete.Asian Games Centennial Festivals,Boracay will host this special multi-sports event.Philippines Swimming League,was held in the island for their open water swim after competitions in Aklan Sports Complex in Makato,Aklan.And other local sporting events were held here in Boracay island.
