Taiwan is a small island nation in East Asia,180 km east of the Mainland China,with modern cities,traditional Chinese temples,hot spring resorts and dramatic mountainous terrain. Taiwan is the most populous non-UN state and the largest economy outside the UN. Taiwan has a some impressive scenic sites,vibrant culture,entertainment hub and perhaps the most favourite destination for short holidays.

  1. Taipei 101 is a landmark skyscraper in Xinyi District,the building was officially classifieds as the world tallest in 2004 and remained until the completion of Burj Khalifa in Dubai in 2009. In 2011 the building was awarded the LEED platinum certificate and become the tallest and largest green building in the world. Construction of the 101-story towers started in 1999 and finished in 2004. The tower has serve as an icon of modern Taiwan ever since its opening. The tower is designed to withstand typhoons and earthquakes. A multi-level shopping mall adjoining the tower houses hundreds of stores,restaurants and clubs. The tower features an indoor observation deck (88th and 89th floor) and an outdoor observatory deck (91st floor). Both offers a 360-degree views and attract visitors from around the world. The indoor observatory offering a comfortable environment,large windows with UV protections,recorded voice tours in eight languages,informative displays and special exhibits. Here one may view the skyscraper main damper,which is the world's largest and heaviest visible damper. The outdoor observatory is the second highest observation deck ever provided in a skyscraper and the highest such platform in Taiwan.
  2. Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is a national monument,landmark and tourist attraction erected in memory of Chiang Kai-shek,former President of Republic of China,located in Zhongzheng district. The monument,surrounded by a park,stands at the east end of Liberty Square. The structure is framed on the north and south by the National Theatre and National Concert Hall. The Memorial Hall is white with four sides,the roof is blue and octagonal. Two sets of white stairs,each with 89 steps to represent the age of Chiang's age at the time of his death,lead to the main entrance. The ground level of the memorial houses a museum and library documenting Chiang Kai-shek's life and career and exhibits related to Republic of China-era Chinese history and Taiwan's history and development. The upper level contains the main hall,in which a large statue of Chiang Kai-shek is located and where a guard mounting ceremony takes place in regular intervals. Groundbreaking of the memorial park took place on October 31,1976,the 90th anniversary of Chiang's birth. The hall officially opened on the 5th of April 1980,the fifth anniversary of the leader's death.
  3. National Palace Museum is located in Shilin,Taipei. It has a permanent collections of nearly 700,000 pieces of ancient Chinese imperial artifacts and artworks,making it one of the largest of its type in the world. The collections encompasses over 10,000 years of Chinese history from the Neolithic age to the late Qing Dynasty. Most of the collections are high quality pieces collected by Chinese ancient emperors. The National Palace Museum started construction from March 1964 to August 1965. Due to the insufficient spaces to put up on display over 600,000 artifacts,the museum underwent expansions in 1967,1970,1984 and 1996. In 2002,the museum underwent a major renovations revamping the museum to make it more spacious and modern and the museum officially reopened on February 2007.
  4. National Revolutionary Martyr's Shrine is a shrine in Zhongshang District,dedicated to the war dead of Republic of the China. Build on Chingshan Mountain and overseeing the Keelung River in Taipei. The structures houses the spirit tablets of 390,000 persons killed. A changing of honor guard from various branches of the Republic of China military,similar to the rituals at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall,take place at the shrine.
  5. The Dragon and Tiger Pagodas is a temple located at Lotus Lake in Zuoying District,Kaoshiung City. The temple was build in 1976,one of the towers is the Tiger Tower,and the other one being the Dragon Tower. The seven story tower has yellow walls,red pillars and orange tiles. The front connects to the shore with a bridge. In the,Tiger Tower there are paintings of twelve Magi and the Jade Emperor's thirty palaces as well as paintings of Confucius. The tower has a double spiral staircase,one each for ascending and descending visitors. Overlooking the towers are Small Tortoise Mountain,Spring and Autumn Pavilions,5-miles Pavilion,Pei Chi Pavilion and as well as the surrounding Lake.
  6. Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village is an amusement park in Yuchi Township,Nantou County. Which has been operational since 1986,it is distinctive for its Formosan Aboriginal Culture Theme. The park contains the tallest free-fall ride in Taiwan as well as Taiwan's largest European gardens and bell tower. The Cultural Village is a place were people can observe Taiwanese traditional tribal lifestyle and observe an abundance of aboriginal tradition. A trip to the village offer visitors a chance to enjoy many educational and recreational riches and it easily requires an entire day to experience all the village has to offer. The Village is an aboriginal theme park that is composed of three major areas:the Aboriginal Village Park,the Amusement Isle,and the European Gardens. The outdoor atmosphere gives visitors a glimpse of aboriginal heritage in an authentic setting by depicting the village and lifestyles of Taiwan's nine main tribes. The best time to visit the village is during the cherry blossom session,this is because the flower session is especially beautiful and gives an extra special appearance to the village. The blossom session is between February and March depending on the weather conditions.

Fort Anping or Fort Zeelandia was a fortress build over ten years from 1624 to 1634 by the Dutch East India Company in the town of Anping (Tainan),during their 38 year rules over the western part of the island. During the seventeenth century.when Europeans from many countries sailed to Asia to develop trade,Formosa become one of East Asia's most important transit sites,and Fort Zeelandia an international business center. Fort Zeelandia included an inner and outer fort. The inner fort was a square and a three layers construction. The lower was for storages of ammunitions and foods,the second features a blank wall,the middle part of each side has a semi-circle protruding barrack to strengthen the defense. Above the third story was the administrative center,including offices,garrison and church,all of them independent structures. There are walls in the periphery,with protruding bastion on each of the four corners,armed with cannons,a watch tower was set at the southwest bastion. The one-story outer fort was a rectangular fort,with bastion on the northwest and southwest corners,armed with several cannons. Inside the outer fort were residencies,hospital and houses,the plaza is the commercial area.
  8. National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is literally:"National Father of of the Nation"Memorial Hall,is located in Xinyi District. The Hall is a memorial to the Republic of China's National Father,Dr. Sun Yat-sen and was completed in 1972. The total building area covers 29,464 square metres in an open space of 115,000 square metres. It contain displays of Sun's life and the revolution he led and is also a multi-purpose social,educational and cultural center for the public. The main entrance to the hall contains a statue of Sun Yat-sen. Every hour,there is a formal changing of the guards,which is a popular tourist attraction. The building also includes a performance hall,an exhibition center of about 10,000 square feet,a multimedia theatre,an audio-visual center,lecture halls,and a library with over 300,000 books. The building itself is sited in Chung-shan Park. It includes gardens,decorative historical walls,and an exhibition and performance area surrounding Lake Cui,also known as Emerald Pond.
  9. Liberty Square is a public plaza covering over 240,000 square meters in the Zhongzheng District of Taipei. It has served as the public gathering place of choice since it's completion in the late 1970s. The name of the square recalls the important historical role it played in Taiwan's transition from one-party rule to modern democracy in the 1990s. Liberty Hall is home to three major landmarks as well as a civil park. At the east end of the square stands National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall,it is flanked by the National Concert Hall in the north and the National Theater in the south. A park surrounds the plaza and a wall surrounds the site. The square sits within sight of the Presidential Office Building. Liberty Square regularly serves as the site of mass gatherings in Taiwan. It is the scene for red-carpet ceremonies when Taiwan President greet foreign dignitaries. Crowds gather at the square throughout the year for outdoor concerts and festivals. The National Theater and Concert Hall host over 800 every year and provide iconic backdrops for event in the square. The ponds and the parks surrounding the memorial and cultural centers features well-maintained lawns,trees and pathways. The ponds are filled with Koi,tradionally found in gardens of East Asia.
  10. Eternal Spring Shrine is also called Changchun Shrine,is a landmark and a memorial shrine complex in Taroko National Park in Hualian County near town of Xiulin. It is one of the picturesque points of the park,with the view of the mountains and waterfall,and one of the main memorials for veterans. It was planned for construction in 1958 while the Central Cross-Island Highway was build nearby. It commemorates the memories of 212 veterans who died while constructing the highway in 1956-1960. The name of the temple comes from the Changchun Falls that never stop running. The shrine is located right above the waterfall streams.
